I never promised you a rosegarden

This small piece is only 20 x 20 cm. It was my entry for the contest 'The color red' and made it into the exhibition in Osnabrück - it ended as 6th from 52. I embellished a background of red ramie and silk chiffon, incorporating small rosebuds underneath. The I hand-embroidered the whole piece with french knots and fly stitch. it is backed with paper.

Dye with Rubia Tinctoria

I have dyed some fibers with powder of Rubia Tinctoria roots (Krapp). Part of the fibers was pre-dyed with Maclaya (a wonderful yellow), resulting in a beautiful salmon shade. I did not follow a specific recipy, so I am not sure whether I will be able to get the same results next time - but who cares - I like surprises!
I used soda & urea as mordant.

Sticky Back Canvas & faux batik

Today I had some time to experiment with Sticky Back Canvas and faux batik. It works really well and I am very satisfied with the results. This is what I have been doing:

Top: Aren't they lovely? I stamped the Sticky Back Canvas with multi purpose medium and layered several washes on top. I finished by adding more colour by painting with a small brush.

Several layers of acrylic washes on Sticky Back Canvas stamped with (1) color and second stamp with white. Another wash on top

For this one I stamped the SBC with matt multi purpose medium and added a few washes of acrylic color on top.

Little bird of paradise

This small piece is needlefelted silk, handembroidered.

SHAPE and pattern recording

Today I finally found time to do some coursework again. I have added pictures of texture and shape. I have chosen a small piece of barbwire as shape.
